Previously when you were in trouble, everyone could help you. Here, one has to look after one's own affairs. You and yourself. Me and myself. We don't have the money to care for everyone.

In the old place, if you got hold of a wild boar, everyone in the long house would get to taste it. Now, if your neighbour manages to catch a fish, you can only hope to smell. Over here, even fights have taken place. We can't sit and eat together with neighbours. Many times we had to eat rice with salt and ajinomoto. If there is no rice, I will have to find tuber instead.
