Bunga Gani of Uma Penan
Where is the good of Asap? There is no delight in staying here. Previously
we could gather produce from the forest. Now we have to buy. We'd
buy the food and it'd be finished in no time. If it finishes, it finishes.
We'd have to eat rice with salt only.
It wasn't like this in the old home. In Asap, we cannot even gather
food as we please. You look over there, that is other people's territory.
Then some people would be bombing the fish in the river. When you
use bomb, forget the fish, even the crocodiles would all be dead.
To buy food, we'd have to hire transport. Even the vegetables are
expensive.
People are getting drunk like never before. Then they'd be fighting.
Look at all the written rules on the wall. We didn't have to write
down rules before this, you know. |
