Malaysian Environment Alert 2001

Sahabat Alam Malaysia Seeks to access in Malaysian Environment Alert 2001 the country's quality of environment and conservation record, what's left of its natural resources and prevalent attitude towards the environment.

Latest data about the forests, biodiversity, freshwater and marine ecosystems and the urban environment are gauged in the light of the practices, policies as well as legal measures and international agreements.

Alert 2001 also rounds up the devastating consequences of the fast track style of development in recent decades on natural resources, ecosystems and communities .. and their impact on the quality of living. Hotspots and specific issues are pinpointed: the Main Range and hillside development, the Sungai Selangor Dam, overtrawling, leatherback turtles, shrimp farming, Klang valley transportation and the annual haze among others.

Alert 2001 is the key to understanding the implications of testing Nature's limits. It only serves to fuel our alarm over what the future holds in the heedless rush to exploit Nature for short term gains.
